Welcome to University of Chester

The university is one of the oldest higher education providers in the UK having recently celebrated its 180th year of teaching, starting off as a teacher training college back in 1839. The university now offers more than 300 single and combined honour’s programmes across a number of specialist sites in Chester, Shrewsbury and Warrington.

Ranked 20th nationally by students (WUSCA 2020), and currently ranked 69th in the Good University Guide (The Times/Sunday Times 2021), the University of Chester offers generous international and merit based scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate study, providing a significant reduction to the headline tuition fees.

Chester is a modern and compact city that is also rich in history and culture. One of eight world-famous British Heritage cities, Chester welcomes over eight million tourists each year. Ideally placed in the North West of England, it is less than an hour from Manchester and Liverpool, just a two-hour direct train journey to London and close to both the beautiful Welsh coast and mountains. The city of Chester has received countless awards including:

  • Safest City Based University in North West England (Complete University Guide 2019)
  • Second Most Student-Friendly City in the UK (The Sun 2019)
  • Top 10 City in the UK (The Telegraph 2018)
